Areas of Interest

Considering the areas of excellence at Duke University and the crucial policy decisions that the world will face in the coming decades, the Nicholas Institute foresees developing programs in the following core areas: (1) climate;  (2) energy; (3) coasts & oceans; (4) water; (5) conservation & environmental services; (6) environmental health; and (7) environmental literacy.  Our initial work focuses on the areas of climate, energy, coasts & oceans, and water.  The other areas will develop over time. 

Climate and energy policy are inextricably linked, as is our work in these areas.  We work at multiple jurisdictional levels (International, National, Regional, State), developing environmental solutions where we can be most effective.
