DURHAM, N.C. – Sixteen of the Research Triangle’s leading experts on energy systems, economics and policy – and on careers in the energy field – will lead sessions at the Energy Industry Fundamentals Conference on August 28 at the Fuqua School of Business’s McClendon Auditorium.

The free, daylong conference, which is open to all Duke University students, will provide an overview of the energy industry, its challenges and opportunities, and where it is headed.  Topics include oil and gas; the electric power sector; renewable energy, project finance and career opportunities.

Two Nicholas School faculty members, Richard Newell and Dalia Patiño-Echeverri, are among the 16 researchers and practitioners who will present. Newell is Gendell Professor of Energy and Environmental Economic and director of the Duke University Energy Initiative. Patiño-Echeverri is Gendell Asssistant Professor of Energy Systems and Policy.

Seating at the conference is limited, and students wishing to participant should RSVP to the Energy Initiative at http://bit.ly/1BtYM2K. No prior knowledge of energy issues is required. The dress code for the event is business casual.

The conference is organized by the Fuqua and Nicholas School Energy Clubs and co-sponsored by the Duke University Energy Initiative and Fuqua’s EDGE Center.

Speakers and panelists include experts from the Energy Initiative, Fuqua School of Business, Pratt School of Engineering, Sanford School of Public Policy, Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, SJF Ventures, Strata Solar, Babcock & Wilcox, Siemens, International Farming Corp., and Scott Madden Consulting.

A networking social will follow the conference at 5:40 p.m. in Gross Hall.
