Bachelor of Science in Earth and Ocean Sciences

Co-requisites and Requirements >

The B.S. degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences provides a background for subsequent graduate work for students who wish to pursue an academic or professional career in the earth and ocean sciences. The Director of Undergraduate Studies works closely with students to tailor their coursework to the specific graduate program they are interested in. We have been very successful at placing students in earth and ocean science graduate programs across the country. The degree requirements also provide excellent preparation for medical school.

Students who don’t go on to graduate school may also pursue careers in these areas:

  • Petroleum or mineral exploration
  • Research or policy making at government agencies such as the U.S. Geological
  • Survey and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration
  • Research assistance at universities and institutes
  • Environmental consulting, in areas such as hydrology and groundwater quality
  • K-12 Education
