Dean's Update-A Note from Toddi.jpg

I’m going to keep this short this week as I am traveling – once again – to meet with our impressive alums.
I’m trying to learn about what our alums are doing on the ground to deal with the environmental challenges we all face, and I am networking for additional internships and work opportunities for our students and graduates. So far, I can report that our alumni network is robust and enthusiastic.
I am encouraged by the amount of interest shown by our alums in helping our recruitment efforts and how eager they are to work with our students.
For this trip, I flew out to the San Francisco area, where last night Duke Board of Trustees member Jeffrey Ubben T’83 and Laura Ubben T’84 graciously hosted an event at their home for me. They had invited around 30 people including some of our undergraduates, master’s and PhD students. The event was fantastic.
As I write this I am on my way to Palo Alto to meet with foundations and other non-profits, and I am excited to have the opportunity to talk about the research our faculty are doing with Nicholas School and Duke alums at an event in Milpitas this evening.
I look forward to seeing you all when you return from Fall Break. I know that some of you are boarding buses this weekend to head to Beaufort where you have volunteered to help the Boys and Girls Club as they recover from Hurricane Florence. My heart is with you.
Wherever you are headed, take care. I’ll see you soon.
