The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) offers a Connection Bar, or help desk, that is staffed weekdays during the academic year from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This service provides hands-on assistance in an array of methods and tools widely used by social scientists including the following:

  • Developing models and testable hypotheses, data collection;
  • Survey design, survey implementation, online survey software (Qualtrics, Checkbox);
  • Bayesian statistics, endogeneity and selection bias, latent variable models, linear models, missing data, multivariate statistics/dimensional analysis, panel data, social network analysis, spatial econometrics, visual display of quantitative information;
  • Excel, Matlab, MPlus, NodeXL, GIS, R, SAS, SPSS, Stata

The help desk is housed on the 2nd floor of Gross Hall on Science Drive.  All Duke affiliates needing assistance are welcome, and no appointment is required.
