Summer 2023, Term 1

Wednesday, May 17 - Thursday, June 29, 2023

The Marine Lab will not offer traditional courses for Summer Term 1. If you are interested in taking a summer course, please visit the Summer Term 2 page. The Duke Marine Lab will offer a limited number of research projects for Marine Lab Scholars and for students in the Marine Science and Conservation majors. Additional information will be made available before the end of the Fall 2022 semester.

The Bonaventura Summer Research ScholarS Program

This intensive summer research program will host a small cohort of Duke students at the Duke University Marine Laboratory to develop and carry out individual research projects. Students will start the program with a “boot camp” to learn about the scientific method and the development of hypothesis-driven research. Then, students will initiate research projects with their faculty mentors, with the eventual goal of developing a senior honors thesis for Graduation with Distinction.

The scholarship for students in this program will include tuition (Research Independent Study), room (double capacity), and board at the Duke University Marine Laboratory for Summer Term 1, 2023. There will be no cost for the student to attend the Marine Lab for Summer Term 1.

Applicants must be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate student at Duke University, with priority given to rising juniors and seniors. Additionally, scholarships are available for students in any major, but preference will be given to Marine Science and Conservation majors or students who have already indicated an intention to carry out a senior honors thesis. Students on Duke Financial Aid should consult with their Financial Aid Advisor to understand how your Duke Financial Aid package will be impacted by receiving this scholarship
