This course will examine how science, literature and media frame our perceptions of the ocean in the Anthropocene. From science articles to science fiction, our class will explore the symbiotic relationships among science, the arts, and literature, as we delve into the narratives these fields rely on to comprehend and represent the global scale of oceans and climate change. We will draw up on media theory to help guide our journey as we consider how these representations mediate our experience of the ocean. The class will include local field trips in the Beaufort community.
SUMMER SCHEDULE: This course will be taught: Monday and Friday 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM and 1pm - 4pm. Students in Ocean Media will also be able to enroll in Marine Invertebrate Zoology if they wish to add an additional course.
