REU FAQs

Who is eligible?
Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors enrolled in a baccalaureate program, who are US citizens or permanent residents, are eligible.

What does the program cost?
All room and board expenses are covered by the program. Participants pay no fees or tuition charges. There is a stipend and a travel allowance.

What should I include in my statement of interest?
Your statement should indicate  (i) your area(s) of research interest from the 4 general areas, (ii) the advisor(s) of interest, (iii) academic/research preparation for this research area, (iv) career plans, (v) usefulness of the REU program for your career objective.

Where will I live?
Students will live together in dorms on the Duke Marine Lab campus and share meals in the dining hall.

Do I need a car? 
You may bring your personal car. The Duke Marine Lab campus is small and the dorms are centrally located. There is no public transportation, but Duke Bikes can be checked out for student use.
