DURHAM, N.C. – Talks by leading energy experts, a daylong conference on emerging energy technologies and innovations, and a case competition where student entrepreneurs will vie for a $10,000 top prize will be among the highlights of Duke University’s first-ever Energy Week, Oct. 30 through Nov. 4.
Student energy clubs across campus have joined forces to organize the new event, which will also feature networking opportunities, demonstrations by local energy-related startup companies, and tours of some of the Triangle’s most renowned energy facilities and energy-efficient buildings.
Complete details, including a full schedule of events and registration information, is available here.
Among the week’s highlights will be the “Energy in Emerging Markets Case Competition,” on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in which student teams from Duke and beyond will compete for a $10,000 top prize.
Each team will aim to wow the judges with its proposal for a new, business-based energy solution with positive social and environmental impact that could be implemented in Cuba’s emerging energy landscape.
Another Energy Week highlight will be the Duke University Energy Conference, “The Technology and Innovation Driving Our Energy Future,” on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Hundreds of energy leaders, policymakers, researchers and students are expected to attend the conference, which will feature keynote addresses by Ellen Williams, director of the U.S. Energy Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy; David Brewster, president of EnerNOC, the world leader in energy intelligence software; and Mauricio Gutierrez, chief executive officer of NRG, the nation’s leading integrated power company.
Brewster is a Master of Environmental Management graduate of Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment, and serves on the school’s Board of Visitors.
The Nicholas School Energy Club is one of eight student clubs at Duke who are organizing Energy Week.
