DURHAM, NC – Faculty members Charlotte Clark, Rebecca Vidra and Alexander Glass have assumed responsibilities as directors of the Nicholas School of the Environment’s Undergraduate Studies program.

Clark will serve as Director of Undergraduate Programs; Vidra will serve as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Division of Environmental Sciences and Policy; and Glass will serve in the same capacity in the Division of Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Clark succeeds Emily M. Klein, professor of geology, who served as director of the program for eight years, from 2004 through the start of the 2012-13 academic year.  Glass succeeds Bruce H. Corliss, professor of earth and ocean sciences, who has accepted an appointment as dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island.  

As directors of Undergraduate Studies, Clark, Vidra and Glass will work with Nicholas School administrators and faculty to oversee curriculum development, advising and academic support services for students in the school’s undergraduate degree programs and undergraduate certificate programs.  

The Undergraduate Studies program also offers students a wealth of information about the undergraduate programs in general, environmental study abroad opportunities, the Duke University Marine Laboratory, job opportunities, upcoming speakers and events, and social activities, as well as scholarship, research, and internship opportunities.

Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree or minor in Environmental Science and Policy; a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences; and a Bachelor of Science degree, Bachelor of Arts degree, or minor in Earth and Ocean Sciences. They also can obtain a Certificate in Energy and Environment, and an Undergraduate Certificate in Marine Science and Conservation Leadership.

In addition to their duties as directors of Undergraduate Studies, Clark is a lecturer in sustainability education and faculty director of sustainability, Vidra is a lecturer in environmental sciences and policy, and Glass is a lecturer in earth and ocean sciences. 

Staff member Marianne Drexler has been promoted to program coordinator for Undergraduate Studies, with expanded duties to support undergraduate programming in the Nicholas School.

Doug Nowacek, Repass-Rodgers University Associate Professor of Conservation Technology and Electrical & Computer Engineering, remains the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Nicholas School's Division of Marine Science and Conversation.
