DURHAM, N.C. – Career opportunities in environmental professions for students from diverse backgrounds will be the topic of a panel discussion and networking social at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Field Auditorium in Environment Hall.

The event is open to all Duke University students.

Guest speakers Cyndy Yu Robinson, a public involvement specialist at AECOM, Alberto Alzamora, a staff accountant at the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, and Thomas Easley, director of community for diversity in natural resources at North Carolina State University, will share insights on how they have navigated their careers.

They will also discuss opportunities that exist, and obstacles that remain, for facilitating a diverse and inclusive workforce in environmental fields.

Lili Pita, a second-year Master of Environmental Management student at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment, will moderate the discussion.

A Q&A session will follow.

The event is sponsored by DICE (Diverse and Inclusive Community for the Environment, the Black and Latino Club, and the Nicholas School.

After the event concludes, all attendees are invited to stay for a 6:30 p.m. networking reception with environmental professionals from many Triangle organizations, institutions and businesses.
