Course Numbering
Primary Student Population
100-199 range     Introductory-level undergraduate courses; basic skills/activity courses; foundation courses; Focus program courses
200-399 range Courses are considered undergraduate above introductory level
400-499 range Advanced undergraduate, senior seminars, capstone courses, honors thesis courses 
500-699 range

Courses are considered graduate/professional level classes but upper level undergraduates may enroll

700-899 range

Courses open only to graduate and professional students

900 and above

Courses reserved for the Duke Environmental Leadership (DEL) program

IMPORTANT! Effective fall 2018, undergraduate (UG) courses will no longer count for credit toward Duke graduate/professional students’ degree requirements or GPA calculation, which means courses below the 500-level may not be applied toward the required credits needed for a post-baccalaureate degree. This change in university policy applies to all incoming and continuing graduate and professional students throughout Duke, effective fall 2018; this policy includes undergraduate courses taken through inter-institutional enrollmentCourse Numbering at UNC, NCSU and NCCU.
