Identify which value streams can be made available through the use of big data as African countries continue to develop, particularly regarding customer energy use data that could be collected. Coordinated Operations of Flexible Coal and Renewable Energy Power Plants: Challenges and Opportunities
Report for UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy, done as an independent study in collaboration with a student, professor, and US EPA post-doc fellow. Analyzed feasibility of projects to reduce CO2 emissions and increase renewable integration. Identified technology candidates and assessed potential for implementation in region. Created cost models for coal plant retrofits/new builds with CCS, IGCC plants with/without CCS, and CCS paired with wind to offset energy penalties. Publication and discussion during UNECE meeting expected in October 2017.
