What is your previous work experience?
Prior to the Nicholas School, I worked as an environmental consultant for seven years with a primary topical focus on climate change, air quality, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. I supported government and foundations with program development, implementation, and evaluation. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, I worked with private, public, and social sector entities focusing on climate change and sustainability issues.
Why did you choose the Nicholas School?
I chose the Nicholas School for the ability to have hands-on learning with client projects, the integrated focus on business & environment, the Nicholas School and Duke culture, and the opportunity to live in Durham.
Do you have any areas of interest or special focus you will undertake during your time at the Nicholas School?
My concentration in Business & Environment integrates learning about business tools and sustainability into most of my classes. I am looking forward to learning how to implement sustainable business practices with tools like life cycle assessment, reporting and certifications, and finance. I am also interested in taking advantage of Duke's expertise in energy fundamentals and issues to apply to my planned career in corporate sustainability.
What are you looking forward to as a new Nicholas School student?
I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Duke and Durham communities, including my first Duke basketball game. I am also looking forward to integrating my knowledge of sustainability with new skills and in the business context.
What future plans do you have for your career after the Nicholas School?
I plan to pursue a career in corporate sustainability to deliver improvements in corporate economic, social, and environmental performance. I am especially interested in improving the sustainability of business operations and consumer products.
