Senior Environmental Adviser, IMC Worldwide, UK providing environmental consulting services to Investment Board of Nepal
Banita Rana was born and brought up in Nepal, a remote country sandwiched between gigantic India and China. She has a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee and Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College in New York City, USA. When she lived in the US she worked as a senior engineer for Allee King Rosen and Fleming, a New York based leading planning, environmental and engineering consulting firm. After learning skills in air quality and noise modelling she went towards Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan (EMMP) writing and managing in the infrastructure projects. After 12- years of working with AKRF Inc. she decided to come back to Nepal to work and share the experiences she accumulated in the US. After she came back to Nepal, she first worked for SN (Statkraft and Norfund) Power Holdings Singapore Pte. Ltd. from 2008-2012 first as an environmental manager for South Asia and later as global environmental advisor. At that time SN Power was developing 650 MW Tamakoshi 3 project and 65 MW Kirne project.
Currently she is working for Investment Board of Nepal (IBN) as a senior advisor. At this capacity she is oversees the environmental and social aspects of all the projects that are in the Board’s portfolio which includes hydropower projects, cement industry, solid waste management, airport expansion and construction etc. Banita has always been passionate about her work everywhere but she is more so in Nepal. Her work at IBN takes her to remote parts of Nepal where she enjoys the social interactions with local people. She occasionally provides her consulting services to Asian Development Bank in Manila which takes her to other parts of Asia.
