DUWC'S Stream and Wetland Assessment Management Park (SWAMP)

PHASE TWO:

DAM AND IMPOUNDMENT CONSTRUCTION

Goals: Completion of this phase will further promote reductions in nutrients via biogeochemical processing in and on the fringes of the impoundment and also reduce fecal coliform and sediment content by promoting sedimentation.

Wetland Center faculty and students inspect the dam during construction.

With the dam completed and the weir installed, we are now able to vary impoundment volume and depth. A bridge for Duke Forest's Al Buehler Cross Country Trail crosses the top of the dam.

Water depths in the impoundment can vary from 0.9 to 2.4 meters (3-8 feet) when the maximum water depth is set on the weir.
