Today is our last full day of surveying and sampling
with Jason II. In darkness on Wednesday morning,
the indefatigable vehicle was brought back on
deck and secured. Over the course of this cruise,
Jason II collected tens of thousands of photographs
and hundreds of hours of video through its various
camera systems; sampled and recovered approximately
260 lava, dike, gabbro, fault breccia and hydrothermal
vein samples; and made over 100 orientation measurements
using the geocompass. We are grateful for the
outstanding efforts of the WHOI Jason II group,
who worked round-the-clock to make this all happen.
