Costs for the program will be listed on students’ accounts by the Duke University Bursar's Office approximately six weeks prior to the beginning of the academic session.

Duke students on other payment plans should consult with the Bursar's Office. In the case of some non-Duke students whose home institutions have requested a special billing plan, billing will be issued by the student's home institution.

Additional Costs - Travel Course Fees
Trip fee is posted on students’ Duke bursar bill and usually includes in-country food, lodging, activity fees, and on-site course-related transportation. There are exceptions. Students should check with the instructor for details. Airfare is NOT included.

Summer Study

Costs for the summer sessions will be put on students’ accounts by the Duke University Bursar's Office approximately one month prior to the beginning of each session. 

Summer Term 2024 Tuition & Fees

Each Course – Laboratory (4 s.h./units)

Each Course – Non-Laboratory (3 s.h./units)

  • Full tuition and fees are refunded if the student officially drops a course(s) or withdraws from the term before the first day.
  • There is a financial obligation of $150 per course if the student officially drops a course(s) or withdraws from the term during the first three days. Students who withdraw after arrival will be responsible for a pro-rated room & board charge, contingent on the duration of the student's stay. The summer health fee is not refunded. (There is no charge for Drop/Adds that result in no change in course load in the same term.)
  • There is a financial obligation of full tuition and fees (including room & board) if the student withdraws from a course(s) or withdraws from the term after the third day.
Dining (per 6-week summer term)  $2,172 plus NC sale tax

Housing (per 6-week summer term) 

Students enrolled in Marine Lab summer courses are automatically assigned
on-campus housing and dining plan.

Financial aid and scholarships are available for both Duke and non-Duke scholars to study at the Marine Lab. For Duke undergraduate students on financial aid, your aid applies at the Marine Lab for semester and/or summer study.
