Katie coordinates research and partnerships for the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s international research projects in Southeast Asia.  She works to create an inclusive environment that empowers diverse partners to fully participate in the research process.  Prior to working in international conservation, she was with the U.S. Forest Service in Missouri on an interagency council to address pollution from lead mining.  She earned a B.S. in Botany and Environmental Science from Miami University in Ohio before coming to Duke for her MEM and Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
